9 kitchen flooring ideas with the wow factor

If you’re one of those people who spends a lot of time in the kitchen, you’re also likely to entertain visitors there too. Both of which means you’ll want the space to be as attractive as possible – including the floor. If you’re looking for kitchen flooring ideas that will create a real wow factor, here are our suggestions:

Wood

Wooden floors are very attractive, but are expensive and require a lot of maintenance. Wood is also not a practical material for the kind of activities that go on in a kitchen. Tiles, on the other hand, are easy to clean and long-lasting. But they’ll never be as beautiful as a wooden floor, right? Well, you can have the best of both worlds with porcelain wood effect tiles, getting all the easy-to-clean, waterproof benefits of a tiling floor, but with the warmth and beauty of the wood. Take a look at the Vinto Ash Tile for some great inspiration.

Taking your kitchen to new levels

If your kitchen is large enough, creating raised levels will deliver a unique and eye-catching look. Using different styles of flooring on the different levels will achieve a rare look in a kitchen, as well as drawing attention to the step.

Brilliant white

White tiles make any room look bigger, so white tile flooring is perfect for smaller rooms. And if your kitchen gets a lot of sunlight, white tiles will reflect it and help the room look even larger and lighter.

Perfect patterns

Patterned tiling is all the rage and there are some lovely designs that will look fantastic in the kitchen.

Trickled Transitioning

Something new in the world of kitchen flooring is the idea of what’s been called “trickled transitioning”. Instead of the usual straight lines, a more organic and patterned transition can create the wow factor. This is usually constructed with rectangular tiles laid in a herringbone pattern but can be done with any shaped tile.

Stone

Along with the natural wood look, stone is another way to give your kitchen a great rustic, natural look. Porcelain stone tiles come in many colours and variations to create a modern and contemporary looking kitchen.

Island focal point

If your kitchen has an island, you can highlight the area it’s in using your kitchen flooring, which will also ‘break up’ the room. Different focal points can really help create the wow factor.

Retro

Retro kitchens are on the rise and the flooring is a key part of this look. A black and white chequered floor instantly gives this impression, and will easily create a timeless wow factor. Or use tiles that have a vintage wood design.

Monochrome

If you want to make a simple, bold statement, a monochrome scheme will really make your kitchen stand out. Contrast the colour of the floor with the walls, splashback and units to make the overall look sleek and elegant. And you don’t necessarily have to think in black and white – different two-colour combinations can make your kitchen more personal, without taking away from the wow factor you’re aiming for.
