Best floor tiles for pet owners

Pet-friendly flooring

So you are looking for pet-friendly flooring… after all, it’s such a pleasure to have pets around the house and they can give us so much love and joy. But at the same time it can be a challenge to keep your house clean: there are the occasional mishaps; unexpected (and usually unwanted) ‘gifts’ from your loving cat; or muddy paw prints and garden debris that the dog that brings in after a frolic around the garden. It’s usual to be clearing up after them many times every day. So ideally you want a floor that is tough, durable and easy to maintain which makes floor tiles, for pet owners, the perfect option.

Advantages of floor tiles for pet owners

There are many advantages that floor tiles have over other types of flooring such as carpet, wooden and laminate flooring, mainly because these are types of flooring tend to absorb stains and odours which makes them difficult to clean. They can also be ruined by continuous scratching. Any high-traffic area such as the kitchen, utility room, hallway and conservatory that also provides direct access to the garden would benefit from having floor tiles fitted.

Floor tiles have the advantage of being:

  • Hygienic and easy to clean
  • Stain resistant
  • Odour resistant
  • Scratch resistant
  • Durable and long lasting
  • Safe and comfortable

Which pet-friendly flooring to choose

Natural stone floor tiles tick all the boxes and are an excellent choice for pet owners, but they can be expensive. Quartz, ceramic and porcelain floor tiles provide alternative budget-friendly options while, at the same time, offering the same convenience and benefits. There are so many different colours and finishes to choose from, so there is something to suit all tastes.

You could consider a colour or pattern which blends in with your pet’s fur so you don’t end up with, for example, black hair on a white floor or choose a darker colour that does not show up the dirt and dander between cleanings. Quartz tiles (made up of resin, quartz, sand, colour pigment and crushed mirror pieces) have a fabulous, sparkling star-like appearance and come in a range of colours. Or, if you originally set your heart on a wood or laminate flooring there are porcelain tiles which have a wood effect like our Metalic Semipolished Porcelain Tile or our Soft Nut Brown Matt Porcelain Tile which looks just like dark brown laminate flooring. If you are looking for a pattern, there is the Oriol Beige Metalic Brown Matt Ceramic Tile which has a wonderful square patterned design.

Do be aware that floor tiles will be colder than carpet or laminate flooring, so make sure there is somewhere comfortable and warm for your pets to rest and sleep. Also choose a finish that gives your pets some traction as they walk (or run!) across the floor – you don’t want your pets sliding into the wall!

So, keep yourself and your pets happy by choosing the right floor tiles for your home. With the wonderful range of floor tiles for pet owners available, you can have a beautiful pet-friendly floor.
